FCADV Prevention Institute

In order to create change, preventionist must maintain relevance. This can be accomplished by using media examples, teaching young people how to analyze media, using effective storytelling, and creating counter narratives. These methods are continuously being used in classrooms, and can be applied to domestic/sexual violence prevention work. The purpose of this workshop is to provide tools for enhancing prevention education trainings and workshops. During this workshop, participants will learn about critical media literacy; analyze forms of media that address dating abuse and sexual violence; and gain a deeper understanding about storytelling for social justice. After the workshop, participants will be able to duplicate the activities and modify them to fit their community.
